About me

Vanessa Olachea González

Tijuana, B.C. 1994.

Studies / Education
Fine Arts, UABC (Autonomous University of Baja California) campus Tijuana, 2012-2017.

Student Exchange USAC (University of San Carlos de Guatemala), Escuela Superior de Arte, 2015-2 to 2016-1.

Studying fine arts to me was an excuse to learn new things. In the process I came across with different mediums and techniques that in the beginning were completely unknown for me.

To choose and define themes to make art has been an introspective process for me, identifying experiences from my daily life and precise stages of my life. Little by little the purpose has been to take all of those experiences and put them a name and to trying to find a reason of their being. Part of my process includes apart from my personal experiences, the interest for words.

While I studied fine arts, the themes and topics that I worked with several times were the migrants, my grandparents and the psychosomatic illnesses. Now I'm an artist that works with different mediums and themes related to nostalgia, memory and portrait (sometimes figuratively and sometimes in an abstract way).

In most of my work intervenes text or words next to images, or it also serves me as an incentive or as a background in my creative process. My artworks are in many ways, a search to understand and to process with the help of language, my own experiences. Sometimes they begin with an action or develop into an exploration for visual poetry. Besides from visual arts, I also write and sing.
